Let there be light!
Celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, the Lantern Festival is China’s first major event after New Year. It’s also one of the most important traditional festivals in the Chinese calendar.
There are many different beliefs about the origin of the Lantern Festival, which dates back over 2,000 years. Nowadays, tens of thousands of lanterns of all shapes, sizes and colours are hung in the streets after dark and children try to solve the riddles printed on the side.
Expect to see a blur of light, colour, firework displays, dancing and music making, all to the backdrop of a full moon.
